the elfin forest at 1700 msm along the crest to the first peak (9°25’ S, 74°43’ W) of the main
range at 2250 msm. ••• Low elfin forest with many epiphytic lichens, mosses and vascular
plants. Ground covered by a thick layer of roots, rotten leaves and stems; parUy rocky.
Root climber with carmine-red flowers and dirty lilac fruits; this plant at 2240 msm.
