NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN 02591509 Northern INDIANA Northern PORTER County Scleria Reticularis Miehx. var. ^ubescens Britt« (S. Muhleriberii Steud* se^a°Qa sensu Gore) In bogs, DUNE PARK, on Lake Michigan, 7 mi. E. of GARY, Ind., SE of Chicago. I Concerning this particular collection (#2629) i the following was written by C. C. Deam, Flora of Indiana, page 211. (I9k0)r Scleria setacea Poir. (Scleria reticularis var. pubescens Britt.) Map U15. There is a | specimen in the herbarium of the University | of Wisconsin collected by Unibach in 1908 near ; Dune Park, Porter County, which I am referring | to this species. This specimen has the pubescent achenes and the long filiform peduncles of the | lateral spikelets but the lobes of the I hypogynium are not acute or only scarcely so; ; Witmer Stone, in his "Flora of Southern New j Jersey, on page 281* says: "The width of the | leaves and pubescence of the schenes are i characters which are very variable." The size j of the achenes of our plants is about the same | as those of S. reticularis. While the achenes I of typical ST reilcularis are glabrous, some- | times an achene is found which has a trace of j pubescence which is a character of S. setacea,. I. M.
