Sphaerophysa salsula (Pallas) de Candolle Richard R. Halse OSC I PLANTS OF MONTANA Montana Natural Heritage Program Jefferson County Sphaerophvsa salsola (Pallas) DC. Piedmont Swamp, two airmiles southwest of Whitehall in the Jefferson River valley, an area of alkaline periglacial lake plain. Elevation: 4350'. Few localized clusters in alkaline upland near abandoned railroad; associated with sporobolus airoides, Distichilis stricta, Haolopappus intecrrifolia. Flower color is brick red; drying to purple.
