Chusquea lehmannii Pilger
Quindío: Mun. Salento, Reserva Natural del Alto Quindio, above the
Estación Biológica Estrella de Agua on the trail to Frontino, above
Quebrada La Plata, 3340 m. 4°37-40' N, 75°25-30' W.
In cloud forest with Weinmannia, mosses and ferns abundant. Culms
erect at the base, clambering, scandent and hanging above, 3.9-4.2 cm
in diameter, about 8-12 m tall, reaching 15-18 m with rebranching of the
central branches. New shoots covered with heavy white wax. Culm
leaves not reaching next node, covered with white wax, blades cordate.
Internodes 21-33.5 cm long at the base, higher intemodes 31-36 cm
long, shallowly sulcate above the bud/branch complement. Branching
extravaginal; subsidiary branches about 50 cm long, some to 1.5 m long,
intermixed with well developed fibrillar branchlets. Treated with 70%
EtOH.
