BAMBOOS OF COLOMBIA Chusquea sp. Quindío: Mun. Salento, Reserva Natural del Alto Quindío, Estación Biológica Estrella de Agua, Sendero Laurel Tuno, 50 m beyond Est. 10 - Trompeto, right bank of the stream below the headwaters of the Rio Quindío, 3180 m. 4°37-40' N, 75°25-30' W. In secondary upper montane forest above the Río Quindío. Bamboo common in places; this clump with many culms in flower, some at anthesis, mostly past. Culms erect to leaning at the base, scandent and hanging above, 2-3 cm in diameter, 8-10 m long. Internodes scabrid above the culm leaves, pubescent-hispid or glabrous below the nodal line, often with a deeper green band below the node, shallowly sulcate above the bud/branch complement, 24-27 cm long. Culm leaves with the sheath fused at the base for about 2 cm; girdle present, at base with a ring of cilia all around the node. Branching extravaginal. Central bud triangular, subtended by at least 2-3 rows of smaller subsidiary buds in a constellate arrangement; nodal line dipping only slightly; supranodal ridge well developed, internode often wider here than at the nodal line; root primordia developed in the nodal area at nodes in the first 2 m or so of the culm. Foliage leaves with the midvein of the blade excentric. Inflorescences narrow, branches appressed. Treated with 70% EtOH. 21 June 1994 L. Clark, X. Londoño & O.
