00.912S, Longitude 054 deg 59.658W. Cerrado scrub. Gentle slopes.
Lateritic red clay and sand soils. Associated palms are Syagrus
romanzojfiana and Butia marmorii.
The MBC garden accession number of this plant is 20020852.
Palm short-trunked ca. 1-1.2 m tall. LEAVES 13 in crown, spirally
arranged and spreading. Leaf sheath plus petiole is 20-25 cm long with
almost no perceptible true leaf petiole, 1.8-2 cm wide and 0.5-0.7 cm
thick and a fibrous leaf sheath, leaf rachis 134 cm long. ca. 50 pairs of
leaflets which are distributed evenly along the rachis in one plane.
Basal leaflets 40-46 cm long x 0.2 cm wide, middle leaflets 46-47 cm
long 1.1-1.2 cm wide, and apical leaflets 26.5-29 cm long x 0.1 cm
wide. Androgynous INFLORESCENCE with 45 cm long, 1.5 cm wide
and 1.0 cm thick peduncle and 18 cm long rachis, but total inflorescence
30 cm long as measured from the lowest primary branch to the apex.
There are 34 primary branches measuring 12 cm long at the apex and
17 cm long at the base. Peduncular bract with a length of 44 cm x 4
cm in width and with a 7 cm perimeter and a 2 mm thickness. Flowers
slightly purplish. Fruit not seen.
