ISLIP: Just above eastern boundary of San Gabriel Wilderness. Ca. 4-mi closed section of Hwy. 39 from ca. 1,6 mi W of jtn. Crystal Lk. access rd. to jtn. Hwy 2. Steep granitic mountain- sides; Quercus chrysolepis and Pinus spp. overstory; many road cuts and sandy colluvial slopes above and below hwy. Woody perennial, ca. 0.2 m tall. Wings and keel pale to medium purple; banner white w/ yellow spot at center upon opening, becoming dark purple in age. Occasional to common in uncommon patches on open bedrock slopes.
