Gould PALO PINTO CO.: spikelets purplish; common in burned- over post oak woodland on slightly convex upland underlain by Pennsylvanian sandstone, in soils mapped as shallow, well drained, moderately alkaline extremely stony clay loam (Palopinto series, Lithic Haplustolls) but seeming sandy in the field, ridgetop S to SSE of Tucker Lake, ca. 3.9 airmiles WSW of jet. St. Rt. 16 and R. M. 2372 at Strawn, at N32°31.235, W098°33.231\ Palo Pinto Mountains State Park. Elev. 1270-1280 ft. Associates included Allium drummondii, Allium canadense (var. unknown), Ambrosia psilostachya, Aphanostephus skirrhobasis, Argemone albiflora, Bothnochloa ischaemum, Carex muhlenbergii, Chaetopappa sp., Fraxinus texensis, Glandularia pumila, Juncus marginatus, Lepidium virginicum, Loeflingia squarrosa, Nassella leucotricha, Nothoscordum bivalve, Nuttallanthus texanus, Oenothera laciniata, Opuntia sp., Quercus stellata, Silene antirrhina, Thelesperma filifolium.
