Common Name Tarpin, Well Wit, Sugar Bush
Description Tree with milky sap. Leaves are lustrous and dark green above,
and have rusty red tomentose hairs underneath. Flowers are
yellow.
Found on the west side of the Old Farm Rd, which runs from behind the
Old Bight High School and leads to the main road at the turn to
Greenwood complex. Disturbed roadside tall dry evergreen forest /
coppice.

Fruits are chewed by children, like gum. The limbs are boiled and the
decoction taken to treat "sugar" (diabetes). It is not bitter.
