Partially maintained by occasional brush- hogging. With scattered trees of Juglans cinerea, Quercus rubra, Prunus serótina, P. americana, Carya cordiformis and remnants of old apple orchard. Shrub 2 m. tall, the stems to 1.8 cm. in diameter, most branches arching. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Older stems have lost their spines. Bark smooth, with peeling areas.
