Ridgetop. Partially maintained by occasional “brush-
hogging”. With scattered trees of Juglans cinerea, Quercus
rubra, Prunus serotina, P. americana, Carya cordiformis
and remnants of old apple orchard.
Single-stemmed shrub, 3.5 m. tall, 6.5 cm. in diameter, only
this one individual seen here. Voucher for wood specimen,
MADw. Trunk with scattered compound spines, the spines on
leafy twigs simple, slightly recurved. Past blooming; the
commoner species here is Crataegus crus-galli L., s.l. (Nee
61128) which is in full anthesis now.
