Along grassed waterway between flat agricultural fields,
with Carex, Spartinapectinacea, Solidago canadensis,
Veronicastrum virginicum\ wet prairie at time of settlment
in the 1850s. Decades ago mowed twice a year for hay, now
somewhat overgrown.
Extensive patch with many erect stems, 1.5 m. tall, to 8 mm
in diameter; stems with numerous reflexed prickles on
lower part, but herbarium material (i.e. upper flower/fruit-
bearing branches) nearly unarmed. Voucher for wood
specimen, MADw. Hips green with reddish twinge.
