Near top of very steep SW-facing bluff above the wide
Wisconsin River valley, formerly dry prairie, now almost
completely invaded by Juniperus virginiana. With
Lithospermum canescens, Sorghastrum nutans, Amorpha
canescens, Hypoxis hirsuta.

Tree 16 cm. in diameter, 75 years old, with many very
narrow annual rings. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw.
Wood aromatic, the heartwood purplish, the sapwood much
lighter. “Cones” glaucous.
