0.1 mile south of German Reformed Cemetery, 0.6 mile
northwest of Little Hickory Creek bridge; about 10
miles due east-southeast of Vandalia. Powerline
clearing. Brownstown 7.5 minute U.S.G.S. quadrangle.
Elevation 580-590 feet. Disturbed sandy clay-loam.
Dry-mesic upland forest, open roadside bank with
prairie elements, dominated by Juniperus virginiana,
Prunus serotina, Quercus imbricaria, Eupatorium spp.,
Andropogon gerardi, Schizachyrium scoparium,
Tridens flavus. Flowers rose-pink with darker spot on
standard; leaves dark green above and pale below, fruit
green; wand-like perennial herb, branches congested
towards apex; at margins of clearing.
