BAMBOOS OF COLOMBIA
Chusquea aff. lehmannii Pilger
Cundinamarca: Mun. Fomeque, 17.4 ESE of Fomeque on the road to
Parque Nacional Chingaza, 3050 m. 4°28' N, 73°47f30" W.
Upper montane forest, growing with Neurolepis aperta. Bamboo in
clumps, sometimes forming large stands, all vegetative. Culms erect at
the base, arching above, 3-4 cm in diameter, 4-6 m tall. Branching
extravaginal; central branch sometimes developing; in shade the branch
complement with fibrillar branchlets mixed with the numerous subsidiary
branches; sheaths of subsidiary branches farinose when young.
Internodes 20-27 cm long, shallowly sulcate above the bud/branch
complement, a white waxy band about 1 cm wide just below the nodal
line, this fading with age. Culm leaves just reaching the next node, often
maculate when young, but can be reddish-purple in the sun; sheath
abaxially pubescent on the lower half, otherwise smooth, hairs
appressed.
