  • Habitat

    Common in the blackwater floodplain of Rice Creek; periodically inundated. Forest dominated by Acer rubrum, Taxodium distichum, and Nyssa biflora, with Carpinus caroliniana, Sabal minor, Liquidambar styraciflua, and Ilex. Forest floor open but with scattered Habenaria repens,Sedges, Saururus cernuus, and Smilax.

  • Description

    Flowers ivory-white; strongly fragrant with vanilla/jasmine. Labellum not papillate, centrally yellow; margin white, ruffled to lightly lacerate. Sepals often held high. Dorsal sepal and petals forming a triangle when viewed head-on (with the tips meeting). Callosities large, incurved. Flowers pollinated by Bombus impatiens (with visible pollenaria removed). Phenology of specimen: Flower.
