N Madagascar, Antsiranana Province, Ankarana
Massif, northern end, c. 14 km SW of Anivorano
Nord, near village of Ampasimbengy.

Remnant vegetation, in cultivated region, stream
side and damper slopes, very disturbed, on silty soil.
Also common in wooded grassland around the
Ankarana Massif.
Alt. c. 325 m
Scrambling shrub with twining tendrils, climbing to
c. 8 m tall in surrounding vegetation. Twigs and
shoots pewter grey. Leaves bipinnate with 4-6 pairs
of pinnae; leaflets yellow-green, paler beneath;
leaves deciduous and almost all fallen; leaflet
pulvinules sometimes becoming woody tendrils.
Fruit flat, the dark brown outer layer peeling back to
reveal the straw-coloured inner surface, the seed
falling in individual segments leaving a persistent
replum.
