Low, shrubby restinga vegetation near the sea, with tall evergreen forest inland; this plant growing in low restinga.

Description
Untidy sprawling subshrub to 25 cm. Stems red above. Leaves rather bright green above glossy with red-tinged margin, paler beneath. Calyx tube pale green below, pinkish red on upper side. Petals pink. Stamens with pinkish-purple anthers, with two small dark purple appendages, tipped white. Filaments pink. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
