Ridgway Trail (west side, and east side of Coffee Creek)
Beall Woods State Park, on Illinois Route 1 east of
Keensburg and 6 miles south of Mount Carmel. Vicinity
of the banks of the Wabash River. Keensburg 7.5 ‘ topo.
quad. Alluvial soil. Low level areas in shade.
Wet-mesic floodplain forest dominated by Quercus,
Celtis, Carya spp., and Acer saccharinum. Understory
with Car ex spp., Laportea canadensis, Senecio
glabellas, Saururus cemuus. Frequent thicket-forming
shrub 0.5-1 meter tall, inflorescence erect,
few-branched, flowers pale green, tepals reflexed,
anthers golden-yellow; leaves and petioles
soft-pubescent.
