Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of the offset, since description provided in time (minnutes) not distance; instead georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Tonantins, a tributary of Rio Solimões, in município Tonantins, Amazonas. Referred to "Traveling Luck for Rio Tonantins, Amazonas, Brazil" from the Traveling Luck website for location information for Rio Tonantins (http://travelingluck.com/South+America/Brazil/Amazonas/_3661892_Rio+Tonantins.html). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located the mouth of Rio Tonantins. The mouth of Rio Tonantins is along the shore of the city of Vila Velha (synonymous with Tonantins Velha). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mouth of the river, along the adjacent shore (in Vila Velha). Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the mouth of the river (the confluence of Rio Tonantins and Rio Solimões). Input coordinates, linear extent (481.833 m.), and measurement error (.001 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Mouth or headwaters of a river, confluence of waterways, trailhead).
