Growing in a woodland on a NW-facing mountainside, with Agros(is aequivalvis, Alnus viridis, Aruncus dioicus, Athyrium felix- femina, Blechnum spicant, Carex mertensii, Cornus canadensis, Elliottia pyroliflorus, Empetrum nigrum, Fauria crista-galli, Gymnocarpium or Phegopteris sp., Listera cordata, Luetkea pectinata, Menziesia ferruginea, Olopanax horridus, Picea sitchensis, Rubus pedatus, R. spectabilis, Salix sitchensis, Sphagnum spp., Tiarella trifoliata var. trifoliata, Tsuga mertensiana, Vaccinium caespitosum, Vaccinium sp. & Veratrum eschscholtzii.
