National Forest. Coast Range Ecoregion. Acid peat and
humus over basaltic bedrock.
Montane forest with Rhododendron, Thuja, Tsuga,
Alnus, Gaultheria shallon surrounding peat bog
(meadow) with Sphagnum, Carex spp., Scheuchzeria,
Sanguisorba, Hypericum anagalloides. Common shrub
1-2 m tall; fruits green, erect, leaves glaucous beneath.
Drier (well-drained) uplands.
