    Flooded "igapo" forest along river.

  • Description

    Palm, 3 m tall, 20 cm in diameter. Can grow up to 8-9 m tall in some parts of the river. Solitary, but other individuals sometimes cespitose. Sheath open. 7-8 leaves. Petiole 1,70 m long, rachis 1,7 m long. Pinnae irregularly arranged and grouped, spreading in different planes. 75-80 pinnae per side, green above, light green grey below. Inflorescence infrafoliar, slightly arching when in fruit. Peduncular bract woody covered with spines, 50 cm long. Rachis 90 cm long with a whitish indumentum. 35-40 rachillae per inflorescence, 15-20 cm long. Fruits green.
