Long. Glenville (north), west side of North Carolina
Route 107, 7.0 miles by road north of junction with
U.S. Route 64 (Cashiers). East side of Shoal Mountain
at narrows, east-facing rocky slopes. Elevation about
3500 feet. Metamorphic bedrock, granitic gneiss; slope
in humus and sandy loam, ledges and very large
boulders.
Mesic upland forest, Quercus, Halesia,
Rhododendron maximum, Tsuga canadensis, Pinus
strobus, Magnolia fraseri. Rather common robust fern
in shade; in moist to dry humus among boulders.
