Canyon. Starved Rock State Park. Elevation about 540
feet. Moist, vertical sandstone outcrop, ledges, thin soil;
St. Peter's Sandstone.
Moist, shaded sandstone cliffs, with mosses,
Dryopteris marginalis, Aralia nudicaulis, Impatiens
pallida, Leersia virginica, Pilea pumila, Saxifraga
pensylvanica. Local fern with nearly black (purplish)
stipes; in sandy humus in crevices of sandstone cliffs of
canyon.
