Small tree with leaning trunk, about 6" diameter toward
base; bark mottled gray, quite smooth; foliage lustrous
above, creamy below; fruits abundantly produced, bright,
deep yellow, very conspicuous and attractive, and with
acrid taste; wet slough, with Cornus foemina, Onoclea
sensibilis, Thelypteris palustris; Rose Branch, about 200m
NW of US 17, and just N of main entrance gate to
Brookgreen Gardens; opposite Huntington Beach State
park; elev. approx. 15’. UTM 17 678571E 3709670N.
