Harvard University. Gray Herbarium (GHi PLANTS OF FLORIDA Ilex cassine L. var. cassine AQUIFOLIACEAE Tree 20ft tall, trunk diameter 3in, rare. Growing at the edge of a swamp forest beside a road, in a mix of calcareous road fill & moist to wet sandy to organic loam adjacent to Sanibel Muck (sandy, siliceous, hyperthermic Histic Humaquepts). Growing with Blechnum serrulatum, Centella asiatica, Harrisella porrecta, Ilex glabra, Lyonia lucida, Magnolia virginiana, Myrica cerifera, Nyssa sylvatica var. biflora, Osmunda regalis, Persea palustris, Phyla sp., Pinus elliottii, Serenoa repens, Smilax laurifolia, Taxodium ascendens, Tillandsia fasciculata & T. usneoides. Along the S. side of Long Cypress Cut, about 0.25mi E. of the intersection with Van Eeghen road. Avon Park Air Force Range, Highlands Co. Elev. about 65ft. 27° 34' 43.8"N, 81° 16' 5G.5"W.
