Murri, Alto de Rio Cuevas, ca. 10-22 km W of
Nutibara; ca. 6°45'N, 76°20'W; 1220-2050 m;
disturbed, premontane forest.
Terrestrial shrub along steep roadcuts at ca. 2000
m. Mature leaves nitid above, oriented along stem
but pointing back. Floral bracts dull reddish-
green, strongly spreading and concave. Rachis &
pedicels dull green suffused with red. Calyx green
to dull red. Corolla dark orange (darker at base,
lighter at lobes). Hummingbird visited. No odor of
wintergreen. Berry turning bluish. Locally abun-
dant. Inflorescences usually infested with tent-
forming insects.
