U) }HZ The New York Botanical Garden Plants of the USA Hamamelidaceae Hamamelis virgirtiana NEW YORK, Westchester Co., Rockefeller State Park,west of intersection of Taconic Parkway and Rt. 117 exit. Mature forest primarily of Quercus, Acer, and Sassafras with understory shrubs, ferns, fungi, and floor of leaf litter and humus. Double trunked tree approx. 25 ft. tall, near recreational footpath bordered with stacked stone wall, in dappled shade. Tree growing from forest floor approx. 20 ft. below path, placing blooming branches at eye level. Solitary specimen. Flowers lemon yellow and fairly abundant. Leaves present and green.
