Prairie garden, open weedy ground between grasses planted in rows (Bouteloua curtipendula, Panicum virgatum, Sorghastrum nutans) and coarse herbs planted as plugs (Liatris pycnostachya, Rudbeckia subtomentosa, Symphyotrichum novae-angliae); assoc, w/ usual prairie forbs and scattered Elytrigia repens, Erigeron annuus, Persicaria maculosa, Plantago rugelii, Polygonum arenastrum, Populus tremuloides seedlings, Trifolium hybridum, & T. repens. Tufted, 2--7-stemmed from base, stems erect to spreading. Very local garden weed, forming an irregular patch 10X6 yds. Planted deliberately (largest plants seemingly in a row) or as a seed contaminant, subsequently self-sown (numerous smaller plants throughout 1/3 of the area). All sprangletop removed, 2006.
