Growing on a wooded slope of a small moraine hill. Stems and twigs emit a spicy scent when scratched or broken. Growing in an Oak Hickory Woodland with Aralia elata, Prunus, Erythronium americanum ssp. americanum, Eurybia divaricata, Impatiens capensis, Acer rubrum, and Quercus. Matthew C.
