Medium sized, multi-stemmed shrub approx. 2.4 m tall. Stems and twigs emit a spicy scent when scratched or broken. In moist soil next to vernal pond. In an Oak-Hickory Mesic Woodland with Acer rubrum, Clethra alnifolia, Betula lenta, Cornus, Erythronium americanum ssp. americanum, Eurybia divaricata, and Symplocarpus foetidus. Matthew C.
