M AGN OLIACE AE Tree 80ft tall, trunk diameter 2ft, crown 60ft in diameter, locally abundant, this tree the largest in this population. Twigs fragrant when broken, flowers smell like vanilla, tepals green-yellow with a bright orange crescent toward the base. Growing at the edge of a hurricane-damaged, damp woodland in sandy loam (Hyde, Bayboro, and Muck soils; fine-silty, mixed, active, thermic Typic Umbraquults to fine, mixed, semiactive, thermic Umbric Paleaquults). Growing with Acer rubrum, Arundinaria gigantea, Clifionia monophylla, Eupatorium fistulosum, Hydrocotyle verticillata, Ligustrum sinense, Lonicera japonica, Magnolia virginiana, Myrica cerifera, Nyssa sylvatica, Persea borbonia, Prunus serotina, Pteridium aquilinum, Salix nigra, Sambucus canadensis, Sapium sebiferum, Thelypteris sp., Toxicodendron radicans, Vitis rotundifolia & Woodwardia areolata. Along the S. side of Rt. 90, about6.25mi E. of the intersection with Rt. 59 in Robertsdale. Baldwin Co. Elev. about 115ft. 30° 34'03.9"N, 87° 36' 51.0"W. UTM 16 441104E, 3381862N (NAD83/WGS84). Coll.
