Shrubs 3 m. tall, with yellow-green stems, the younger
twigs reddish. Inflorescence red, in full bloom; flower
lightly fragrant.
Woods on NE-facing slope near top of ridge. Acer
saccharum, A. rubrum, Tilia americana, Populus
grandidentata, Quercus alba, Q. rubra, Ulmus rubra,
Ostrya virginiana, Carya cordiformis, Cornus rugosa,
C. alternifolia, with rich understory of Osmorhiza
longistylis, O. claytonii, Geranium maculatum, Sanicula
spp., Actaea pachypoda, Podophyllum peltatum.
1 mile NW of Cazenovia.
