  • Description

    Pileus 4-7 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, velutinous to subvelutinous, becoming matte to subtomentose to finely granular-subareolate with age, black to dark brown at first, becoming grayish brown to grayish tan, even to very slightly uneven to barely subrugulose. Flesh white, mostly unchanging in the pileus, slowly pink to orangish pink in the upper stipe, blue green in the stipe base, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed, white when young, pinkish tan to grayish tan with age, bruising a pale yellow brown, with pores concolorous and staining likewise. Stipe 5.5-11 cm long, 1-1.5 cm broad, central, strict or curved, subclavate, dry, dark gray to black at first, with dense black scabers, eventually whitish with fine dark gray to black scabers, white at the base with occasional blue green stains in situ.
