CORNACEAE Cornus amomum Mill.
Densely branched shrub 4 m. tall, forming a rounded
mound 5 m. in diameter. Stems mostly green with red
tinge, some reddish; pith tawny.
Flowers with unpleasant fragrance; corolla white; disc
yellowish, turning purplish.
Bottom of small valley with cultivated fields, on formerly
sodded grassy water-run, in the last 15 years grown
up to shrubs and trees, Ulmus americana, U. rubra,
Pyrus ioensis, Crataegus, Prunus americana.
