Shrub 5 m. tall, with 5 stems from base, 4 cm. in
diameter; well-grown shrubs with characteristic whorls
of branches; stems green; leaves smooth, dark green
above, much lighter green below; underside of petiole
in lower 1/2 is reddish.
Inflorescence branches bright red; fruit abundant, to
8 mm. in diameter, dark blue with purple pulp and
juice.
Common in thin woods (ca. 50% canopy) of Juglans nigra,
J. cinerea in bottom of small valley.
