Young tree, 9 m. tall, 25 cm. in diameter. Inflor-
escences dry and brown, hanging. Most trees of this
species hav
e lost their leaves, the leaves only turning
faintly yellow or brown before falling.
Abundant in formerly pastured floodplain along Pine
River, just downstream from Hwy. O bridge. With
Acer saccharinum, A. negundo, Ulmus americana (now
mostly dead from Dutch Elm Disease), Xanthoxylum
americanum.
