Cavendishia quereme
Province of Cartago. Along Hwy. 224, 9-11
km. east of Orosi and Tapanti. Alt. approx.
1200 meters.
Shrub rooted in roadside banks, to 1.5 meters
Also epiphytic in pastures then with branches
about 1 meter. Stem bases about 1 inch in
diameter, bark brown. Branches green.
Leaves crisp, coriaceous, glossy bullate,
dark green above, green beneath. Bracts

BOTANICAL
NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN
dark pinkish-rose. Rachis and pedicels green
to green suffused heavily with rose. Calyx
green in bud, tube green and limb paler at
anthesis, calyx green post-anthesis. Corolla
bluntly 5-angled, white at constricted base,
orange middle 1/2, white upper 1/4 plus limb
and lobes. Corolla not thick fleshy. Distinct
wintergreen odor from all parts of plants.
