Dry ridgetop above primary lower montane moist forest (Pinus, Liquidambar, and Clusia common).

Description
Tree, 3 m tall. In bud each flower in inflorescence subtended and enclosed by pink bract, these bracts fall off as flowers mature, mature flowers with pink calyx, white, tubular corolla; young fruit pink then turning green.
