Agarista boliviensis (Sleumer) Judd
det. M. Nee, 1995
Ericaceae
Depto. Santa Cruz, Prov. Caballero, 3 km. (by dirt
road) NE of Abra de Quine [”QuifialB on some maps].
18°04’S, 64° 19’30”W. alt. 2150-2250 m.
Steep slope with outcrops and boulders of soft
sandstone, with scattered shrubs but not a woodland,
the bottom limit of certain sub-cloud forest species
(Ternstroemia asymmetrica, Mauria thaumatophylla,
Weinmannia), but above the limit of arid woodland
species.
Treelet 4 m. tall, 15 cm. in diameter, but this mostly
of the thick furrowed, corky bark; apparently rare
here. Twigs and petioles mostly reddish (giving the
aspect of Prunus pensylvanica). Fruit turned
upwards, yellow-green, then tan.
