Moench Malvaceae Shrub with closed yellow flowers which are covered with ants. Specimens with green fruits as well. Orange Creek Settlement, along a dirt road that goes to the "North Side" (Atlantic side), north of the Sea Spray Hotel. Found in a culitivated area along road, with much standing fresh water around it and Stemodia maritima dominated scrub. 24°39’ 25” N Longitude 75°41 ’ 87” W The plant is commonly cultivated for it's edible fruits. Not previously listed as occurring on Cat Island (Correll & Correll, 1982).
