City park, the lawn with mostly large Acer saccharum, with
appearance of a natural woods which has been opened up
for a park, with a few large Quercus macrocarpa and Acer
saccharinum and scattered newer plantings. The Acer
saccharum differ greatly from tree to tree in bark
characteristics, ranging from regularly and longitudinally
furrowed and tight, to scaly to almost platy.
Tree 70 cm. in diameter; bark coarsely furrowed, tight,
sometimes with looser plates. Fruit with seed portion green
and wings dried and tan.
