ACERACEAE Acer saccharinum L.
Tree ca. 15 m. tall, with three trunks separating at about
1 m. from ground (20, 30 and 45 cm. in diameter).
Leaves bright green above, whitened below. Fruit turning
light tan; cotyledons bright green, soft. A nearby tree
(no. 16697) with predominantly female flowers was col-
lected in flower on April 14, 1979, but did not produce
many fruits within reach.
Common in floodplain forest along Pine River, with Acer
negundo, Ulmus americana, Salix nigra, S. interior.
3 miles southeast of RICHLAND CENTER.
