ACERACEAE Acer saccharinum L.
Tree 20 m. tall, 1.5 m. in diameter, with two major
trunks dividing near the base. Bark in large flattish
piates and easily removed.
Leaves conspicuously whitened beneath. Very few fruits
forming on this predominantly male tree, other trees
of this species here with fruits nearly all fallen.
Common, partly forested floodplain pasture along Pine
River, with Ulmus americana, Acer negundo.
WISCONSIN: Richland Co., 4 miles SE of Richland Center.
