Steuben; Eagle Hill, Humboldt Field Research Institute, 4 miles due south-southeast of junction of Smithville Road and U.S. Route 1. West side of Dyer Bay, on forested east facing slopes along coast, lower portion of Blue Trail upslope from coastal ledges. Elevation 30-60 feet. Acidic wet humus, sand, gravel; granitic - gneissic outcrops and glacial boulders, seeps on gentle slopes. Coastal evergreen conifer forest (boreal forest), dominated by Abies balsamea, Picea rubens, Betula papyrifera, Cornus canadensis, Vaccinium angustifolium. Occasional to rather common small tree 3-7 meters tall, fruit immature, green, pendulous; stems green, often striped with pale lines on older stems. Steven R. Hill 34012 14 July 2001 02487243
