Aceraceae Acer ginnala Maxim,
det. M. Nee, 2014
WISCONSIN, Richland Co., 3 miles SE of center of
Richland Center.
43°18’10”N, 90°20’22”W. alt. 217 m.
T 10 N; R 1 E; NE'/iSEVi Sect. 35.
Floodplain of Pine River, in grassy meadow surrounded by
swampy woods, with Rubus, Solidago, Corylus americana,
Achillea millefolium, Juniperus virginiana Rumex
acetosella, Poa, just a few dm above surrounding swampy
area with Alnus incarta ssp. rugosa, Salix, Carex, Phalaris
arundinacea. Single shrub with 4 stems, 2.5 m. tall, 3.5 cm
in diameter. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw.
Inflorescences abundant; flowers yellow-green. Evidently a
casual escape; it is rarely cultivated in Richland County. I
had never seen another plant of this here in 55 years of
botanizing, but there is another one of similar size in a more
brushy habitat 450 m. to the northwest. See also. no. 61130
collected 6 June 2014 at 0.8 km ENE from here in fencerow
between hill pasture and cultivated field.
