Ungrazed W-facing slope, woods of Acer
rubrum, Carva cordiformis. Tilia americana,
Ouercus rubra, Q. alba, Ostrya virginiana.
The dominant small tree in the lower canopy,
seems to reach only 10 m. tall, 18 cm. in
diameter here; this tree 6 m. tall, 9 cm. in
diameter; bark finely furrowed. Fruit in a
cluster of brown inflated bracts, mostly now
dispersed. Voucher for bulk medicinal
screening by Pfizer: 43827a BS (Nee-505);
