The New York Botanical Garden Cultivated Plants of U.S.A. Betulaceae Corylus avellana L., probably cv. "Fusco-rubra" det. M. Nee, 1991 New York, Bronx Co., Bronx, cultivated near the Metro North train station at the New York Botanical Garden. Dense circle of 25 stems to 6 m. tall, 10 cm. in diameter. In full bloom in unseasonally early warm period; female flowers inconspicuous but with bright deep red stigmas; male catkins conspicuous, hanging, yellow with light brown on bract, full of yellow pollen.
