Woody Plants of U.S.A.: WISCONSIN: Richland County
BETULACEAE Corylus americana Walt.
Shrubs 2-3 m. tall. Male aments hanging, lax, pale
yellowish, shedding pollen; stigmas deep reddish. These
plants in partial shade and quite healthy but producing
no fruit in 1976; about 100 m. from another population
growing in full sun and these producing much fruit
(collected in Aug. 27, 1976, Nee 14537).
Common in fencerow at edge of woods of Populus tremu-
loides, Quercus ellipsoidalis and bottomland pasture in
valley of Pine River.
